A Family History

My maternal side has many relatives who have suffered with and are suffering with cancer. On May 10, 2008, I doscovered a lump in my left breast and had a mastectomy on June 27, 2008. I am now undergoing chemotherapy. I thank God for being with me!

My maternal grandfather suffered with pancreatic cancer without the blessings of the quality care that is available today. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1971 and had a radical mastectomy and lived for twenty years without a reoccurrence. Her cancer came back in 1991 and she passed on on July 1st. Her brother died in 1986 after a terrible experience with cancer and chemotherapy. My father had kidney cancer in the late 80s and was cured. He developed lung cancer in January of 1994 and was able to successfully deal with chemotherapy and then died on July 31st. My mother's sister died at 91 of pancreatic cancer this past April. My mother's brother at 92 has prostrate cancer. I am 59 and was diagnosed with breast cancer this May and had a mastectomy on June 27th and am now undergoing chemotherapy. I thank God for carrying me through this. I thank God that I am blessed to have medical coverage that allows me to be treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC. I am blessed to have the support and love of my family and friends. I thank God that I am able to deal with the chemotherapy and work. I pray for a cure for me and for all cancers.
